Cutting Gianni's Hair

Last week I saved Gianni's hair... A dude who hadn't cut his hair for several years that it looked like floating seaweed.

Anyway, check out the video and see the transformation.

Final Render - 3D

So here it is... The final renders of the room. you can see I changed it a bit by adding Obama and a TV with Dark Knight Playing. There's not much and I'm sure I could do more for this project but I'm lacking the enthusiasm to work on this room. I want to make video about Gianni Hair!

Wolfman!

I didn't draw that..

Okay, you're about to listen to my sound piece that created for the a group project I had to do this term.
My group had to create a radio broadcast based on the theme of Halloween, so I decided to try and recreate a sound description of a man transforming into a Werewolf.. or something like that.

The piece is just a little over half a minute but I tried to focus on the minor details of the metamorphosis.

Well, anyway, tell me what you think :)

LISTEN TO THIS if you want inspiration or fighting spirit

Web Design man...

So last week I was ill for a most of the week which left me incapable of doing any work or doing anything... leaving my girlfriend to nurse me back to health :)

Well anyway, I've being working on a modelling tutorial for 3DMax to learn how to create characters in 3D and that's taking a long time, so I thought I'd show you guys what else I'm working on atm.

If you go to :

http://jamesdesigner.site11.com/

You will be able to view my beautifully designed website...

Well, anyway, check it out... It'll be changing over time!

Chrome Boy meets Punching bag

Chrome boy met Punching bag, but they didn't get along... So Chrome Boy punched Punching Bag and then Punching Bag ran away crying...

Well, anyway if you remember the previous video i made of a punching bag getting knocked around by box, well this is the successor to that. Basically, I want to create a scene showing the protagonist punching a punching bag in the new visual style I'm developing for this project. The first step was to model a room, then it was model some sort of character that I can animate (Chrome Boy) and then it was to create an interactive element in the room for that character to play around with. This is the first result of those things.

Here, take a look.

Chrome Boy meets Sphere

Chrome met Sphere but they didn't get along, so Chrome boy pushed Sphere away...

Well anyway this scene was created to test how a character can interact with other objects, for example a ball in this case.

The next I want to do is test some curtains or cloth and see how I can use them in my sets

CHROME BOy!!!

Welcome to the birth of chrome boy!

Chrome Boy is my first model character who I will be using to practice my animation skills. He will evolve, develop and change over time but will be the core of my animation research... wooo!!

Crazy TV Next Gen Technology!

I don't know if any of you guys follow digiinfo but they have some crazy stuff on their youtube channel concerning future technologies (mainly from Japan ;)) It's really inspirational/(unbelievable) stuff!

This is apparently the future of not just TVs but maybe human interactions with screens... So funky shit I'd say!

Updated 3D room

Hey all, I've been spending the last few hours getting to grips with 3D max and messing around with the room. Just some small additions. In the picture below I added a model of a wine rack to add more life to the room and in the video I added a sphere moving to see how well I can render videos... It took just over a hour btw... ha ha ha

Enjoy.

PS. I was listening to the soundtrack of Hotel Rwanda (which I bought because it was so good)

If you got the time I recommend you watch this film, very touching.

Trailer

Concept Animation (After Effects)

Okay I wasn't meant to upload this because I was going to use this clip as part of a teaser, however because of recent progress and breakthroughs I decided to show it because I feel that it is no longer up to the level I want for the teaser/trailer.

Well, basically I created this back in August and this was the backbone for the core design of the animation. It was all done in After Effects and took about a week to finish because of all the experimentation and development.

I am now more interested in incorporating more 3D elements into the set and background to bring the whole thing to life. As you can see I make the clouds move and the leaves drop but they're isn't much dynamism to them. Imagine if you could see the leaves move in true 3-dimensional direction and at the same time react to other elements such as wind, environment, etc. Also there is no scale or scope and it's more difficult to create cities or set of large proportion just in After Effects. I aim to study and research more 3D in order to push the project to higher limit!

Get ready for it!

3D Max Realistic Room

Hey all,

Today I'd like to present you with my first render of a room. I've been working on this since 1pm today and it took juts over 2 hours to finish it while working with a tutorial.

I want to recreate the punching bag animation (in the previous post) at the same level of quality... lets see how that goes...

Woohoo time to eat!

Punching Bag Simulation

Well last night I was watching Kung Fu Panda because I thought it would help me fall asleep.

Anyway while I was watching it I was paying a lot of attention to how the film was animated and the thing that interested me the most were the fighting parts, not because it was 'gung fu' but because of the way the bodies interacted with each other. In 3D there is a term called 'soft bodies' which means that the shape of an object would deform according to how it interacts with other objects. Well, anyway I was thinking of how I could do something like that so I got the idea of trying to replicate a punching bag.

Enough talk, take a look

3D!

Here's some of the recent 3D stuff I've been doing! Be amazed!!!!

Well not really...

Anyway the video consists of modelling, rigging and cloth simulation which I've learnt recently and put together!

I'm just interested how to use this all together with after effects to create some really cool scenes!

Where have I been?

Okay ever since I came back to London I've been quite busy trying to fit everything under my hat, but that isn't to say that I haven't been working on this project! I've been studying and practice 3D recently and learning how I am going to tie that in with my project!

So busy, busy.

Anyway, Look out for some updates i'll be posting some more stuff soon!

Anyway I'll upload some stuff I did a few weeks ago.

Here is a sketch I did on photoshop of the Protagonist :)

And this is a kind of intro video of Garret, the second main character.

2nd Character Concept

Today I would like to introduce a concept the second main character of my project. SorryI'm low on the details about the characters as I'm not yet ready to release any information.

Woo hoo

Practice Sketch

When I take a break off the project I tend to doodle or mess around drawing some unrelated pictures. Well, anyway, most of the time when I create a drawn piece of sketch with pencil and then put it on photoshop and do the rest. Well, I thought that this time I should try and do it all from scratch on the computer in photoshop!

Anyway, here is my first picture I've done completely in photoshop without any pencils or rubbers!

Update

Hey all,

I haven't posted anything for ages so you're probably wondering what's been happening..
I've been working on 3 different things:
1. Creating sets from drawings and converting into the appropriate style so that I'll be able to animate them.
2. More character designs but I'm not ready to release them yet as they're still in development.
3. Creating 3D sets so that I can perform some of the more dynamic scenes.

Below you can see how I am developing the scenes from drawings. At the moment I am experimenting and learning how to animate these scenes.

Promo 2

Hey all,

I decided that I couldn't wait to test out this style with a more dynamic picture.
Well here it is!

Check it out, all feedback welcome.

Promo pic

Here is my first promotion picture for the series, no names yet... I'm still working on something that'll fit.

The promo pic was made out of a new design of the protagonist and some variants of it.
Basically I wanted to develop the style a little further because I wasn't satisfied with the current style and found it too 'light'. i think that this style will help portray the heavy atmosphere I am aiming for.

Oh yeah, the teaser is going well, look out for it...

You can see the original at the bottom.

Background for first scene of Teaser

I guess everyone is wondering what I've been doing recently. Well, I can proudly say that I've been busy working on the teaser and it's going really well.

Well I don't really want to post too about the teaser because it'll just spoil it but now and then I'll drop something so you can see how I am progressing.

So here is the backdrop for the first scene.... it took me about 6+ hours to do...

Falling leaves

Hey all,

After walking, thinking and looking around a bit, I decided to start working on a scene. So what does that mean? More animation work... :(

Well today I was working on some leaves falling down because in this pilot scene I want try and see how well I can bring out the environmental details with animation.

Anyway, check it out and tell me what you think, though remember this is still in development.

Rain Animation

Okay here is another video experimentation. I wanted to try and create a rain effect as I know I'll be creating a scene(s) that will contain rain.
Anyway, check it out, soz about the crap quality... it was quicker to upload..

Animation 1

Okay, so the past few days I've been thinking what to do next and it so happened that yesterday night I went to try out a meditation session.
Anyway, I wanted to create a short animation to get some idea how to animate my eventual comic, so I thought... let's try breathing... yeah that's right... just the protagonist breathing, uh huh.
Well check it out here:

It didn't go completely plan as the lighting was inconsistent in each scenes, but it still produced a cool effect.

Playing With Colours

So here's a full view of the character in his cop outfit (as you can see on the right). It's not exactly the same as the crappy sketch I made earlier but it's more or less the sameish~

Anyway, I decided to experiment with colours again and see what kind of styles I can come up with.

The first picture is in the complete original style, then the next image I changed the image a bit so you can his nose, increased the saturation and changed the whole colour. In the third image I darkened the lines to give the character a stronger and more determined look and changed the colour to a light, ice cool blue. The final image is an inversion inspired by Andy Warhol's Michael Jackson piece.

Thug 1#

Yeah, yeah, what's up...##??#

So Today I thought, how about trying to design a villian, or just something different for once, yesterday I tried out a new character but it didn't work out so I didn't post it up.

But , anyway, here's a mock design of a thug that i'll be using my first short which I'm working on atm............. Wiki wiki wah

Busy busy busy @@@@

Creating a sequence

Okay, yesterday I created a mock scene so I decided to proceed to the next step which was to design 2 images of the characters that could be used in sequence.

But now that I have 2 designs I essentially have 2 characters. So what I can do is put them in the same scene and this give me the opportunity to imagine what it would be like if I did have more than one character interacting with each other.

Mock up concept

So I decided to play around with the previous image I posted up and try and create something with a bit of feeling.

I used to red around the character to convey a murderous/dark intent within him.

Practice Scene

Wala~ Here is my first mock up of a scene.
I haven't played around with the colours yet nor done up the background properly but you can see how things are beginning to shape up. O_______O

Here's a slightly different version of the character design by itself.

Gun Meditation

Okay after playing around with the gun I thought I should create my first 'gun-scene'.

Here you go

Working on the gun.

Woohoo, worked with a gun today! For now I just to a quick run over with the model of the gun to try and figure out what kind of look im looking for.

Some people may recognaize this gun...

Landmark

I think I've almost got the hang of this. Was listening to Eminem - Beautiful while making this.
I'm going to work on facial expressions tomorrow then maybe try and do a pilot comic.

Really happy today :D

Working with more body

Had a lot of fun experimenting with faces, now it's time to see how I can work with some body.

Still deciding whether it's better to go for more detail or a darker blotchy style...

B&W

Getting closer...

Side Profile

Just did another experimentation with my new style and tried doing a side profile.

Developing comic style :)

Today I made a major breakthrough!

While messing with a few drawings and photos I discovered a near complete method of creating the style I've been looking for!

Well look at the first image I posted before. Just to show how much progress I've made, I've put my first concept up again side by side.

Just remember, this is still in development

Costume Design 1

So now that I've got a fairly good idea what the protagonist looks like I started working on one of the costume designs - his military/police outfit.

Back from Italy. Time for some Character development.

Now that I am back from Italy it's time to continue my work.

Here are some sketches I've been working on since I've got back.

This is my first imagination of my character for upcoming project.
I decided to use the image of Raiden from the Metal Gear Solid franchise as my source of reference and inspiration to model my character from.

In this picture of Raiden you can tell he's been through quite a lot, I want to achieve something similar with my character. I want to show his physical and mental deterioration throughout his story.

In this picture I decided to draw my vision of what the character may look like when he's younger, or at the beginning of the narrative. As you can see he looks a lot more reserved and stress-free. However, the image is too cartoony/manga-like for my liking so I changed it a bit.

This design of the character still looks young but more mature than the last and seems to be more focused.

Here is a final sketch of what I think is the best portrayal of my character at the early stages of the story. You can see he doesn't look as young as the previous sketches.
